Show Me the Money: Best Songs for Accounting

One of my responsibilities at Access Marketing is handling money. Now, I like money (just ask anyone here!), but I love music. I’ve been singing since I was four. My daddy was a band and choir director. My grandmother played a mean piano. When I was younger, she performed in nightclubs, and as I got older, she graced us with her infamous living room jams. Music is a powerful mood influencer and memory inducer.

While I can’t listen to music during times of deep concentration, like when I’m budgeting or revenue planning, it’s a different story when I’m managing our accounts payables/receivables. That’s my time to rock. With that being said, money coming in and money going out evoke VASTLY different emotions…

Getting money makes me happy.

When I’m recording checks, these are my favorite tunes to sing to (and maybe even dance to!):

Money – Pink Floyd

Take the Money and Run – Steve Miller Band

Material Girl – Madonna

Money Money – Grateful Dead

Money Talks – JJ Cale

If I Had $1,000,000 – Bare Naked Ladies

Then there are the days I have to write checks, which elicits a slightly more somber mood…

Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back – Meat Loaf

Poor Poor Pitiful Me – Linda Ronstadt

Hang On, Sloopy – The McCoys (okay, so this one is a little too much fun, but I like it!)

I Hate Being Broke – Wesley Willis

Handling money can be an arduous task, so there are times when I truly must concentrate. If words are competing with numbers in my head… it’s an argument no one wins. In those cases, I quiet the noise with rushing water.
